In November 2023, we embarked on a memorable two-day journey to Rishikesh, India, accompanied by my brother’s family. Situated approximately an hour’s drive from Dehradun, Rishikesh is renowned for its spiritual ambiance, yoga retreats, and the majestic Ganges River.
Day 7 & 8 – Things to do in Rishikesh, India
- A short trip to Rishikesh. This city is near Dehradun. Just 1 Hour drive.
- Around noon started the journey from Dehradun to Rishikesh with my brother’s family.
- Lunch at Rishikesh
- Checkin at the hotel Hill Top Swiss Cottage in Rishikesh
- Visited Ganga Aarti at Shatrughan Ghat
- Walk around Ram Jhula market for shopping, drink street tea
- Dinner and party at Pink Cafe Bar & Restaurant (just 100 meters from the hotel)
- The next morning delicious breakfast at Swiss Garden (just 100 meters from the hotel)
- Visited Ram Jhula, temples & Parmarth Niketan Ashram
- Back to Dehradun and had lunch at Haldiram, Rajpur Road
- Enjoyed shopping at Pacific mall, Dehradun
At Hill Top Swiss Cottage in Rishikesh
We commenced our trip around noon, arriving in Rishikesh and checking into the Hill Top Swiss Cottage, a charming retreat nestled amidst nature. After settling in, we ventured to Shatrughan Ghat to witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti. The evening ritual, with its rhythmic chants and flickering lamps, offered a profound spiritual experience.

Post-ceremony, we strolled through the bustling Ram Jhula market, indulging in local shopping and savoring street tea—a delightful way to immerse ourselves in the town’s vibrant culture. As night fell, we dined at Pink Cafe Bar & Restaurant, located just a short walk from our accommodation, enjoying delectable cuisine and lively music.

The following morning, we relished a hearty breakfast at Swiss Garden, conveniently situated near our cottage. Energized, we explored Ram Jhula, visiting temples and the serene Parmarth Niketan Ashram. The ashram’s tranquil environment and spiritual teachings provided a deep sense of peace.
Before concluding our trip, we returned to Dehradun, stopping for lunch at Haldiram on Rajpur Road. The meal was a delightful end to our journey, and we capped off the day with shopping at Pacific Mall, Dehradun.
This brief yet enriching visit to Rishikesh offered a harmonious blend of spirituality, culture, and family bonding, leaving us with cherished memories.
