FRI Dehradun is one of the country’s oldest research institutes dedicated to forest research. It is the most comprehensive forest-based training center in India and attracts thousands of students each year to study and research every aspect of forests.
Day 2 – Travel Memories in Jaipur, India
The City Palace in Jaipur is spread out over a series of courtyards. It was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II as part of his ambitious city project, and his successors continued to ornament and add to the elegant buildings up until the 20th century.
Jal Mahal (meaning “Water Palace”) is a palace in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur city, the capital of the state of Rajasthan, India. The palace was originally constructed around 1699; the building and the lake around it were later renovated and enlarged in the early 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber.

Amber Fort is situated in the valley of the Aravalli ranges just below Jaigarh Fort. Prior to shifting their capital to Jaipur, Amber was the capital of the Kachhwaha Rajput’s. Amber was initially under the domain of the Susawat Meena tribe. In the 11th century, Dulahrai (Dhola), the son of Sodhadeva laid the foundation of the Kachhwaha dynasty in the Dhundhar region. His son, Kakil Dev took over the reign of Amber from the Meena’s. Raja Man Singh I started the construction of the new palace complex in the end of the 16th century. After Raja Man Singh I, Mirza Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II made modifications and changes as per the needs from time to time. They also changed the interior decoration as per their own interest. The entire fort constructed in four stages.
Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur was built by the ruling King Jai Singh II in the year 1726. With an expansive layout overlooking Amer Fort, the fort boasted of exuberance and royalty. It was built to be a defensive structure, rather than a palace itself, by the king. The highlight of the fort is the connecting underground pathway between Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort to help people reach safety, in case of an attack.
The five-stores palace was built in the form of Krishna’s crown because Sarai Pratap Singh was devoted to Krishna, the Hindu god. The mahal has a total of 953 small casements each with small lattice worked pink window, balconies and arched roofs with hanging cornices. This allows cool breeze blow through the mahal and keep it cool and airy in summer. Despite the large number of windows, each of them are size of a peep hole such that the royal ladies were not to be seen by the public.
