I visited Chiang Mai in November 2011, Here are some photos of the Kirimaya Paradise Ecotourism Network in Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai, Thailand which was set up to help the local villagers. Huts cost either 500 baht or 1,000 baht a night at the 2 places in the village offering accommodation. But I did not stay. If you wish to stay , then most of tour operator and local guides know about this place.
Located in Chiang Mai Province, Doi Inthanon National Park encompasses the highest mountain In Thailand, Doi Inthanon, as well as several lesser summits. The doi (mountain) is largely a granite batholith intruding a southerly extension of the Shan Hills range and forming the divide between the Nam Mae Ping river to the east and the Nam Mae Chaem river to the west. Lower elevations in the most easterly pant of the park are limestone formations and contain a number of caves.
I visited Chiang Mai Zoo , in November 2011 during Thailand Flood. But ChiangMai was safe place to spend holidays. Some of photos I have taken during my trip.
Chiang Mai Zoo was established by the The Zoological Park Organization, Thailand in 1974. Situated on 531 Rai of verdant forest land at the foothill of Doi Suthep mountain, the zoo is surrounded by hilly terrain which is home to thousands of species of wild plants and flowers adorning the natural landscape of valleys, streams and waterfalls. Chiang Mai Zoo is the first and only zoo in Northern Thailand where visitors can experience the excitement and intimacy of various species of animals in their natural habitat.
During the flood in Bangkok (Oct-Nov) 2011, I stayed couple of days in Chaiang Mai and travelled around Chiang Mai. Sharing some memories about city and weekend night market.
On weekends, Chiang Mai Walking street markets are organised on both Saturday and Sunday, and though crowded, are worth it to find better handicrafts, artsy items and souvenirs – displaying the full creativity of this city. Lots of items on display are simply ‘cute’ – there’s no other way to describe them – often sold by the makers themselves and are unavailable at the Night Market. Typcially, they begin in the late afternoon and run through until about 23:00.
